Plattsburgh NY

Lake Champlain is the thirteenth-largest lake by area in the US. Approximately 107 miles long and 14 across at its widest point, and maximum depth of approximately 400ft. During the seasons the lake varies from about 95 to 100 ft above mean sea level. The lake receives water from the northwestern  slopes of the Green Mountains and the northernmost eastern peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. As you cruise the lake you are surrounded by such beauty and in the evening the lake looks like a mirror reflecting the mountains. Nana did not expect the lake to be so large and is pleasantly surprised by it beauty. It is connected to the Hudson River by the Champlain Canal so once NH starts her journey back to Newport RI we will enter the canal.
Wednesday August 3rd NH is docked at Plattsburgh Boat Basin. The marina is a little neglected and NH was tucked back into the rear end of the marina which was very shallow. This meant that Nandad was not comfortable putting on the air conditioning- the modern conveniences of todays boating! We survived the night with two fans which worked quite well.
The City of Plattsburgh is located on the west shore of Cumberland Bay. It is the second largest city on the shores of Lake Champlain , Burlington VT being the largest. There are many Islands and shoals to be avoided cruising these waters. The city played  its part in the battle with the British in 1814.
This is the Historic D&H Railroad Station Building which Amtrak continues to use. The Queen-Anne-style red brick depot was opened in 1886 by the Delaware and Hudson Railway.
Nana and Nandad will continue their cruise tomorrow to Champlain Marina on Mallets Bay where they will leave NH for a week and return to MA.
