Here we are at the Burton Island State Park St Albany Bay Vermont and what a cruise it was to get here. The Green Mountains on the Vermont side and the Adirondack Mountains on the NY side. Lots of sail boats on the water enjoying a lovely sail. In order to get to the island we had to cruise by Isle La Motte - where Nana read is the oldest reef in the world - Chazy Fossil Reef - cross over to North Hero , then up to Alburg Tongue , back down passed Butler Island (private) , Woods Island (state park) and finally dock at Burton Island. The area is know as The Inland Sea.
Lovely to see so many sailboats.
The narrow passage into The Inland Sea : Notice the Canadian Courtesy Flag is no longer flying.
Here is the Island Runner passenger ferry that comes from Kill Kare State Park. It was very entertaining to watch the ferry come and go dropping off campers and ringing the bell when it was time to leave. The park has 26 lean-to-shelters, 3 cabins, 14 tent sites, 100 slips, 15 moorings, walking and bike trails, and firewood for sale for those pits. So you can imagine the activity here - no vehicle access. Nana and Nandad were fascinated watching the fishing activity at the dock with parents and their young children.
At the end of the day the swimmers have returned to either their camps, cabins or boats. Just for your information American folklore, Champ or Champy is the name of a lake monster said to live in Lake Champlain! Champ is a mysterious creature , similar to the Loch Ness Monster.
